to keep those pesky insects away this season.

1. Lemon Grass      

An Herb that grows up to four feet tall and three feet wide and contains citronella, a natural oil that mosquitoes cannot stand. Lemongrass is also often used to cook for flavor. Any plant carrying the citronella oil is sure to ward of the bite of a mosquito.







2. Scented Geraniums

Citrosa geraniums (citronella plant) produces a citrus scent that mimics citronella smells. The strong smell the geranium sets off is what repels the mosquito.








3. Lavender

Lavender will keep moths, fleas, mosquitoes, and flies away. These insects can’t stand the sweet scent that emits from the plant. Plant lavender by your front door or bundle bouquets of it in your home to keep these bugs from getting into your house. It thrives in a hot, dry, sunny environment.







4. Rosemary

Thriving in containers, Rosemary is another herb that is a great, pungent smelling plant that will keep bugs out of your garden. It does well in hot, dry weather.







5. Catnip

The stronger the smell the better to keep mosquitoes away. Catnip has been found to be more effective than DEET. Rolling up a catnip leaf and rubbing it on your body is sure to keep the bugs away… but not the cats.







6. Mint

Mint is a great plant that will spread like crazy and is a hard plant to get rid of, which is why it is great to keep the bugs away. Ants and mice can’t stand the smell so putting mint within your vegetable garden is great.







7. Bay Leaf

Repelling a lot of pantry insects, bay leaves fragrance will keep moths, cockroaches, ants, and flies away from your food.








8. Basil

The smell is so strong that flies cringe at it. Bring some with you to your next picnic outing and it will keep flies away from your lunch. Putting pots of it on your patio will also make cooking on the grill more enjoyable.
