Winter Survival Guide

Brrrrr…it’s getting cold out there!  The new year was ushered in with an arctic blast of epic proportions….and we’re only a mere few weeks into winter. By getting prepared now, you can make the next few months a bit cozier, a bit warmer and a bit safer for all.  Here are 6 “must have” items for winter survival.

Firewood Bundles & Bags
Don’t wait until the blizzard hits to find out you’re out of wood. We carry convenient bundles of Ambiance firewood and kindling. Ambiance kiln-dried, insect and mildew-free firewood that ignites easy, burns hot and bright and radiates 35% more heat energy. The convenient package with handles is easy to transport and lighter to carry. Also be sure to check out our Birch firewood bundles, birch is a nice alternative to traditional hardwoods and doesn’t release heavy smoke or sparks. It’s romantic blue flame is fun for winter nights curled up by the fire.

Wood Pellets
Wood pellets burn cleaner, are more convenient and easier to store than firewood. They produce significantly less ask and particulate waste than firewood. A ton of wood pellets can easily be stored in a 4’x4’ space. If you burn wood pellets, we’ve got you covered with 40lb bags of premium pellets available individually or by the pallet for an additional savings.

Sometimes simplicity rules!  Duraflames offer warmth, ambiance and even crackle with the simple strike of a match. And with logs burning up to 5 hours or more, you can enjoy a long, leisurely evening basking in its glow.

Safe Pet Ice Melt
Icy driveways, steps and walkways aren’t just tricky to navigate, they can land you squarely in a hospital bed. Keep them slip-free with ice melt.  We love Safe Pet Ice Melt, which is free of salt and completely safe for our four-legged friends. It’s also non0corrosive and helps prevent snow and ice from re-bonding, even at lower temperatures.

Feathered Friend Black Oil Bird Seed
We aren’t the only ones who need a little extra TLC when inclement weather strikes. Our feathered friends also struggle against the chill and depend on regularly filled bird feeders to survive. We love Feathered Friend Black Oil Bird Seed for its high-protein, high-energy ingredients. It’s also versatile in that it appeals to a variety of species and can be sued in hopper, tube, platform or window feeders. Whatever brand or choice of bird food you buy, please remember to keep it plentiful!

Nut or Pea Coal
Coal stoves have been referred to as the lost art of heating, but they’re experiencing renewed popularity for good reason. They burn longer, most cost effectively, and are smoke free. Coal is also a lot easier to store than wood for obvious reasons, most notably its size. We love the fact that once lit, a coal stove can burn continuously for hours on end, making it a cozy gathering spot for the whole family.

Windshield Wiper Fluid
It’s something we’ve all experienced – the constant splatter of mud and dirty snow on our windshield as we navigate a slush filled road. It’s not only a nuisance, it’s dangerous, particularly if we don’t have windshield wiper fluid to clear it.  Without wiper fluid, our wipers just make the situation work by smearing it further. Always make sure your wiper reservoir is filled and that your wipers are working properly.  Before driving, also be sure that the holes on the hood that spray the fluid are not blocked by snow or ice.
