Assistant Store Manager - Warehouse
Location: Dennis
Reports to: Store Manager
Pay Range: $54,000-$65,000
Agway of Cape Cod is a family-owned and operated company seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Store Manager – Warehouse employee to help lead daily operations at our Dennis location.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being in the yard and on the sales floor, balancing team leadership with customer service, inventory movement, and operational excellence. If you take pride in running an organized, efficient operation and setting the tone for a positive, high-energy workplace, this could be your next great step.
Warehouse Focus
- Supervise daily warehouse operations, including unloading, organizing, maintenance, stock rotation
- Stocking bulk items, shelves, counters, or tables with merchandise as directed.
- Maintaining an up-to-date familiarity of bag yard product locations.
- Receiving product manually and with purchasing orders in a timely and accurate manner.
- Receiving and pricing merchandise as directed.
- Maintaining awareness of feed dating, stock rotation and inventory counts
- Keeping inside and outside areas neat, clean, and orderly.
- Keep facilities clean and safe by dusting countertops, shelves, and assisting in the cleaning of other areas.
- Handling items with care to avoid damage.
- Unloading and loading delivery trucks.
- Maintain proper handling procedures for loading of customer purchases.
- Maintaining efficient, organized, and safe traffic flow at location and with deliveries.
- Using the RF gun and developing an understanding of its various screens and functions.
Provide Friendly and Efficient Customer Service
- Greeting customers and offering assistance in a pleasant and professional manner.
- Answering phones, taking messages, or forwarding calls in a professional manner.
- Answering customer’s questions concerning location, price, and use of merchandise.
- Obtaining on-going knowledge and abilities with our POS system.
- Processing point of sale transactions.
- Bagging merchandise or directing customers to pick up locations.
- Utilizing radio system in a timely and professional manner.
- Calling and confirming pickup or carrying out of customer purchase.
- Maintaining an expansive awareness of product information, promotions, and sale items.
- Actively problem solving and positively resolving customer issues and complaints.
- Accepting, documenting and communicating delivery requests with detailed directions.
- Dispensing propane where applicable.
- Processing and fulfilling online orders.
- Processing and fulfilling special orders.
- Processing returns and refund requests in compliance with store policies.
- Paying off account balances upon customer request.
- Calling customers upon receipt of special-order deliveries.
Effectively Overseeing the Yard and Warehouse
- Receiving, coordinating and controlling damage of inventory.
- Serving as locations traffic manager as well as actively unloading and loading delivery trucks.
- Stocking bulk items, shelves, counters, or tables with merchandise.
- Ensuring a clean and organized work place.
- Enforcing the general safety procedures of P Wiles Inc.
- Providing training to new forklift operators
- Inspecting tools, vehicles and premises for potential hazards on an ongoing basis
- Planning and recommending layout and design changes to create a more efficient use of space.
- Utilizing company checklists reviews all vehicles and equipment for needed repairs and maintenance. Upon approval of Ops Manager, schedules and completes needed repairs using appropriate service vendors.
- Creating and implementing a tool/power tool inventory and monitoring that Inventory for the safe return of all tools.
- Contributing to the team effort and supporting our pro-active customer service philosophy.
- Ensure that warehouse staff assists stocking the sales floor and provides customer service.
Supervises All Location Employees:
- Maintaining an on-going knowledge of employee issues, goals, and concerns.
- Serving as a resource for company policies and procedures.
- Serving as the eyes and ears of the store through constant attention to physical appearance of facilities and products as well as professional presentation of customer service employees.
- Assigning daily workflow, projects, and store scheduling.
- Documents employee performance and any pertinent store events.
- Act as a role model for colleagues and subordinates; provide relevant coaching and feedback (verbal and written) regularly to maintain company operating standards.
- Training employees to be aware of the loss involved with damaged and stolen merchandise.
- Setting and maintaining store standards for merchandising.
- Delegating and prioritizing the stocking of shelves, counters, or tables with merchandise.
- Ensuring that the showroom and warehouse are neat and orderly.
- Communicating potential safety hazards and facilities issues to Operations Manager.
- Reviewing employees’ timesheets and correcting errors
- Making an effort to schedule employees based on the needs of the business and the weekly payroll budget
- Participate in the writing of Employee Performance Reviews.
- Manage Employee Performance issues and documentation.
- Hold staff accountable to meeting the requirements of their position.
- Maintaining a positive and high energy environment.
- Participating and providing input during facility walkarounds
Support Overall Team Effort
- Opening and closing registers.
- Opening and closing the store, ensuring everything is put away and locked up.
- Keeping up to date on Agway communications via email, text, and phone, responding clearly and in a timely manner.
- Demonstrating a consistent, enthusiastic, and positive professional demeanor.
- Abiding by and serving as an example for Agway Policies and Procedures.
- Treating fellow team members and customers with respect.
- Providing technical and training support to new employees.
- Cooperating with other assignments deemed necessary by the SR. team
- Working closely with the purchasing department by giving feedback regarding sales of products and making suggestions.
- Effectively utilize the space of the department to produce improved displays and make recommended floor moves and product placement ideas to the GM, Operations Manager and company Buyers
- Attending vendor shows as requested.
- Using email and other various applications accurately, appropriately, and respectfully.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Demonstrated professional experience in customer service, sales, or management
- Minimum High School Graduate, prefer at least a 2-year college degree.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with and supervise employees.
- Solid computer skills that include Internet ability and experience.
- Above average organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Willingness to participate in community events and serve on various committees.
- Working understanding of the POS system.
- Flexibility to work varied hours and dates, both indoors and out, in potentially inclement weather, as business dictates.
- Analytical skills to maintain and increase sales using computer systems-preferred
- Ability to move or handle merchandise weighing up to 60 pounds.
- Ability to speak and problem solve effectively with customers.
- Demonstrated knowledge of proper/legal documentation methods as they pertain to store operations
- Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts such as fraction, percentages, or proportions to practical situations.
- Successful completion and certification of the Forklift Program (must be 18 yrs of age).
- Participation in continuing education as offered, minimum of once per year.
Logistics Pro
Pay Range: $21-26 per hr
Our growing family of four retail locations has opened an exciting fourth space dedicated entirely to outdoor living furniture—and we’re looking for a friendly, outgoing Logistics Pro to be the welcoming face of this showroom. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working independently (or with a very small team), engaging customers in a relaxed, upbeat way, and helping them imagine the perfect patio, backyard, or outdoor gathering space. If you’re personable, dependable, and take pride in creating a great customer experience, you’ll feel right at home here.
As a Logistics Pro, you’ll blend customer service with hands-on work. You’ll greet and assist shoppers, process sales and payments, help load purchases, fulfill online orders, and keep up to speed on products and promotions. You’ll also assemble and merchandise outdoor furniture, maintain a clean and organized showroom and yard, receive and stock shipments using RF scanners, and prepare transfers and paperwork. Training is provided for specialized tasks and operating equipment—including forklifts—and you’ll occasionally help deliver products safely and on time.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide excellent customer service, including greeting customers and assisting with product selection and information.
- Handle all transactional duties: process sales, payments, returns, and schedule deliveries.
- Assist customers with loading their purchases.
- Accurately fulfill online orders and special requests.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of current products, promotions, and store layout.
- Perform specialized tasks, including dispensing propane and safely handling regulated materials like soils, fertilizers, and chemicals (training will be provided).
