After the long and cold New England winter that we had, there’s nothing better than the first real signs of spring! The air shifts. The light feels different. And suddenly, the Cape starts to bloom. Haven’t you been feeling it over the past few weeks? We’ve been soaking up the sun over here at Agway Cape Cod.
Right now, Cape Cod is waking up and you can smell it in the breeze. It’s fresh, earthy, and just a little sweet. When the wind picks up, it carries the scent of spring flowers, even before you can see where they’re coming from. It’s subtle, but it’s there. Spring is officially moving in and we’re here to welcome it with open arms!
Forsythia Steals the Show

One of the loudest signs of spring on the Cape? Forsythia! These bright yellow shrubs are going wild right now, as we’re sure you’ve noticed. They’re often the first thing to bloom, showing up almost overnight and lighting up yards and roadsides. It’s like they’re on a mission to prove winter’s finally over.
You’ll see them everywhere – along fences, in parks, even in the most random corners of someone’s front yard. Their branches are covered in little yellow flowers that don’t wait for leaves to catch up. We love seeing these bright yellow blooms and are thoroughly enjoying how much is growing around us right now. Spring is here!
Daffodils Everywhere
Next up: daffodils. Another beautiful and energetic yellow spring bloom. These bright yellow flowers are just about everywhere right now, and every year, they seem to multiply. Some have clearly been planted with care while others look like they’ve just decided to show up on their own. Either way, they’re a wonderful sight to see on the Cape.

They line sidewalks, dot open spaces, and add some much-needed color to our still-brown ground. Daffodils are low-maintenance and high-impact, which is exactly what we want at this time of year. Are you planning on planting daffodils in your garden this spring?
Tulips on the Way
While daffodils are the stars at the moment, tulips are just starting to appear. Our team members have started to notice these flowers around the Cape recently. Their green shoots are pushing up through the dirt, and in some sunny spots, the first flowers are already starting to open.
Tulips bring a different kind of color, bringing deeper reds, purples, oranges to our landscape. They’re a little more refined than daffodils but just as exciting to see. Give it another week or two, and gardens all over the Cape will be full of them!

Trees Are Starting to Leaf Out
If you look up, things are changing there, too. Trees are beginning to “pop,” with buds turning into tiny leaves and flowers. The soft green haze is just starting to appear, and it won’t be long before everything feels full and lush again.
Cherry trees and crabapples are next in line, and you might already see a few of them starting to flower. Their light pink and white blooms are a sure sign that spring is in full swing. It’s subtle for now, but in another week, it’s going to be hard to miss!

Best Way to Enjoy It? Get Outside
The easiest way to soak it all in is to just go for a walk. Thankfully, Cape Cod is full of quiet streets, garden paths, and open spaces that are perfect for wandering this time of year. Movement is also so good for the soul as most of us have been hunkered down during the recent winter months. Start your morning with a sunlight stroll or take a break from your desk midday to enjoy the warm afternoon temperatures and bright spring blooms.
Heritage Museums & Gardens in Sandwich is a great spot to check out spring flowers. They will be reopening their doors for the season on May 10th, which will be here before we know it. But for now, even a walk around your own neighborhood will do. As we get deeper into Spring, there will surely something new to notice every day. Crocuses might still be hanging on in shady spots, while lilacs are getting ready to bloom. Songbirds are back and making plenty of noise, too. How lucky are we to live in a place as naturally beautiful as Cape Cod? Let’s enjoy it!

A Season That Deserves Attention
There’s a short window between winter’s end and the full-on rush of summer, and it’s worth paying attention to. The Cape feels calmer right now. Less busy. More peaceful. And all these small signs of life including flowers, leaves, birds, are reminders that change is happening, even if it’s slow.
So take a moment. Crack open a window. Go for a walk. Snap a few photos. Spring on Cape Cod is back, and it’s just getting started!
